Edward Rainen has concentrated his law practice on commercial and residential real estate title and transactional matters since he graduated from Boston College Law School in 1976. He practices with his wife and daughter. He was appointed a Land Court Examiner in 1978 and is a Land Court Commissioner for Partition pursuant to GL c. 241 §12. In addition to preparing title reports on subcontract to other lawyers, in his related role as certifying Counsel, Attorney Rainen is a policy-writing agent with underwriting authority for eight title insurers. He has been engaged as an expert witness, initially to analyze and later, to testify as an Expert in Real Estate matters.
Attorney Rainen has lectured, or served as a panelist for continuing legal education programs sponsored by bar associations and private educators. Additionally, for more than ten years he taught Title Examination as part of Northeastern University's Paralegal Professional Program
He served on the Executive Board of the Real Estate Bar Association for Massachusetts and, as past Co-Chair of the Legislative Committee, and as Co-Chair of the Registries Committee. Subsequent to service as Co-Chair of the Residential Conveyancing Committee of the Boston Bar Association, Mr. Rainen served, on its Real Estate Section Steering Committee. In 2001 he was elected to membership in the Abstract Club of Boston, a professional and honorary society focusing on matters of real estate law.
He is a member of the Continuing Education Planning Committee of the Merrimack Valley Conveyancer’s Association. Secretary of State William Galvin appointed Mr. Rainen to the “Registry Users Advisory Group,” a role in which he served from 2003-2006.
Periodicals, including Massachusetts Lawyers’ Weekly, the Boston Globe, Banker and Tradesman, New England Real Estate Journal, The Legal Description, Forbes Magazine, REBA NEWS and the Boston Business Journal, have published his articles and/or sought his comments on topics relating to real estate matters.
Attorney Rainen participated in the drafting of Amicus briefs in the leading mortgage foreclosure cases of US Bank v Ibanez and Bevilacqua v Rodriguez.
